About Captain’s Close

Captain’s Close is a small primary school that is rated Good by Ofsted. Being a small school means we know all our children. It means we have a better idea of what motivates them and what success should look like for them.

We believe that small schools allow every child to reach their potential.

At Captain’s Close we believe that all pupils have the ability to achieve wonderful things.. Our aim is to ensure that our children are happy and enjoy their time at school. This is achieved by providing an environment where children feel safe to explore the new challenges and learning opportunities they encounter.

We aim to help develop creative children who are inspired learners, are considerate citizens, are independent thinkers, have curious and enquiring minds and are caring friends.

All our staff are passionate about making children happy, developing their confidence and inspiring them to be successful. This passion ensures that Captain’s Close is a vibrant and creative place to be.

Our pastoral team works hard to ensure that pupil wellbeing and support is a focus for all staff. As a team, we are committed to supporting all children, and we are extremely proud of the excellent support that we provide to those pupils with additional needs.

We are proud of the community that the school is a part of, and we work hard to make that community proud of us.

Applying for a place

The school’s catchment area is centred on the village of Asfordby. However, we have always accepted pupils from a much wider area. Families from Melton Mowbray are often attracted by our size, our Good rating from Ofsted and our green space.

We are proud of our tradition of warmly welcoming pupils from outside the village. All children are part of our family once they walk through our gates for the first time.

You can apply for a place online at https://www.leicestershire.gov.uk/popular-now/apply-for-a-primary-school-place

If you require a paper form, then you should phone the county council on 0116 305 6684.

The form will ask you to pick three schools in order of preference.

One of these schools should be your catchment school, although it does not have to be your top choice.

The closing date for primary school applications is 15 January 2021.

You will then find out whether your child has a place with us on 16 April 2021.

Discovery Schools Academy Trust

Captain’s Close has been proud to be part of Discovery Schools Academy Trust (DSAT) since 2014.

DSAT is a partnership of like-minded schools who work together to provide a first-class education for the 4,500 pupils the Trust serves. Being in the Trust allows us to collaborate and share research into the latest practice in teaching and learning. This helps our teachers to apply innovative practice from this country and around the world and ensure that our pupils are provided with the very best curriculum and resources available.

Our children also have the opportunity to engage with other pupils in DSAT schools through conferences and sporting events, while other experiences offered across the Trust help to further enrich their time with us. Through our online learning offer, schools have also developed shared projects for children. Perhaps most exciting of all for our children, however, is the Trust’s annual awards night at the Walkers Stadium to celebrate pupil success!
